![]() Dalmatian Italian leaders, such as Luigi Ziliotto, Natale Krekich, Giovanni Lubin, and others, also underwent a political transformation from militant proponents of the Italianness of Dalmatia to politicians loyal to the Government. On Christmas Day 1920, they were disarmed and arrested in a lightning operation ordered by the new civil commissioner, Linares Bonfanti, who had replaced Governor Enrico Millo. ![]() It is concluded that Zadar at that time lived in a state of security emergency caused by opponents of the implementation of the Treaty of Rapallo, mostly gathered in the Rismondo and Carnaro volunteer battalions. This paper opens with an analysis of the political and security situation in Zadar after the signing of the Treaty of Rapallo, which defined the borders between Italy and the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, in order to achieve a better understanding of the context in which the parliamentary elections of took place. ![]()
